The port gate is only the beginning

Breakbulk vessels and specialised handling plans may bring a reactor, transformer, turbine, prefabricated module or heavy machine safely to the quay, but the port-to-site final mile can decide whether the logistics plan works. Out-of-gauge (OOG) units encounter port gates, internal roads, flyovers, cable crossings, sign gantries, toll infrastructure, urban signals and vegetation before reaching the open highway. Near the destination, industrial access roads may introduce the tightest vertical constraints of the entire journey.

Freight forwarders and project-logistics teams need corridor feasibility evidence early enough to compare discharge ports, staging yards and inland routes. A route that appears shorter on a map may require extensive utility work, while a longer alternative may offer a cleaner transport envelope. Field reconnaissance turns those assumptions into measured facts before vessel, trailer and civil-work decisions become expensive to change.

Capture the real corridor

MeasurePRO is SolTec Innovation's LiDAR Route Survey System for Oversize & Heavy Haul. A vehicle-mounted 2D LiDAR sensor measures overhead features continuously as the survey vehicle drives the proposed route. Its verified specifications include ±2 mm accuracy, a 0.2–250 m range, a Class 1 eyesafe laser and IP67-rated housing. The system records bridge undersides, wires, signals, signs, gantries, canopy and other overhead obstructions relevant to the intended travel line.

Dual GPS/GNSS positioning and synchronized 360-degree camera evidence connect measurements to place and visual context. The native Windows 10/11 application on a rugged tablet works fully offline, so survey teams can continue through remote port approaches, industrial corridors and construction areas without a data connection. Evaluate route feasibility in RoadScope

Once online, MeasurePRO syncs the survey to RoadScope. RoadScope is the separate MAP IT. product: it is where planning teams analyse route constraints, review measurements against cargo dimensions, inspect linked imagery and prepare reports or other planning deliverables. MeasurePRO owns field capture; it does not perform RoadScope's analysis, swept-path work or route verdicts.

This connected data chain helps forwarders brief carriers, engineers, port teams, utilities and the cargo owner from the same survey record. Potential mitigations—lifting a line, removing street furniture, selecting another gate or changing a travel line—can be discussed with the relevant location and image in view. Data can also be exported in CSV, JSON, GeoJSON, KML and ZIP formats for established project systems.

One corridor across a multi-move campaign

Large projects rarely move one identical unit. A campaign may combine modules, vessels, generators and support equipment, each with a different transport height. RoadScope can use the shared corridor survey as the basis for reviewing those different envelopes, while a new MeasurePRO drive can verify conditions after roadwork, storms, utility changes or a long gap between shipments. That continuity supports port-to-site planning without rebuilding every move from field notebooks.
