LiDAR Route Survey System for Oversize & Heavy Haul
Technical field guide for setup, capture, synchronization and export.
Product Overview & Deployment Modes
MeasurePRO is delivered as a Native Windows 10/11 (64-bit) application on a rugged tablet within a complete hardware and software package. This native field application is the primary, supported deployment for organizations conducting their own LiDAR route surveys.
The native application operates fully offline in the field and synchronizes to RoadScope when a connection is available. Browser/PWA access exists only as a legacy, secondary mode; it is not the delivered field product and should not be used as the basis for hardware deployment.
Field-verified route intelligence at highway speed.
Hardware Setup
- 1. Mount: Secure the rugged tablet, LiDAR, GNSS antennas and camera system according to the supplied training and installation plan.
- 2. Connect: Attach supported devices through native COM/serial, USB or Ethernet interfaces.
- 3. Configure: Select the sensor and communication settings in Hardware.
- 4. Verify: Confirm live LiDAR values, GNSS position and camera evidence before starting the route.
Supported Sensors
- MeasurePRO Lidar
- SolTec High Pole Lidar
- SolTec Laser
- RSA High Pole Laser
- Jenoptik LDS-30
The SolTec 2D LiDAR specification is ±2 mm accuracy, 0.2–250 m range, Class 1 eyesafe laser, and an IP67-rated housing.
GNSS / RTK
- NMEA 0183 input from compatible positioning receivers
- Serial communication from 9600 to 115200 baud
- Swift Navigation Duro GNSS/RTK support
- Dual-GPS/GNSS positioning architecture
- Windows location service as a fallback
Cameras
- Standard webcam at 720p or higher
- ZED 2i stereo camera support
- Synchronized 360-degree visual evidence
- Photos with EXIF GPS metadata
- Geo-referenced video linked to route position
LiDAR Configuration
Select the connected LiDAR model and its COM/serial, USB or Ethernet interface. Configure the required communication parameters and measurement units, then confirm that the live distance stream is stable.
- Set and verify the ground-reference height before capture
- Confirm the expected measurement range and signal-quality indicators
- Use measurement filtering where rain, snow or atmospheric interference is present
- Validate the installation with a known reference before beginning survey work
Survey Workflow
- 1.Create: Create the survey and enter the project and route information.
- 2.Check: Verify the LiDAR, GNSS and camera feeds before departure.
- 3.Capture: Measure clearances and record constraints as the route is driven.
- 4.Review: Review POIs, measurements, coordinates, notes and visual evidence.
- 5.Deliver: Synchronize to RoadScope when online or produce an interoperable export.
POI / Constraint Capture
Create a point of interest whenever the route presents a clearance, geometry, infrastructure or access constraint. Each record can preserve its coordinate, measurement, category, notes, photos and video context.
Use consistent categories for bridges, utilities, signals, signs, vegetation, rail crossings, lane restrictions and other route-feasibility issues so office teams can review the corridor efficiently.
Measurement Modes
- Bridge survey and overhead-clearance capture
- Lane-width measurement
- Traffic-signal spacing
- Railroad overhead-clearance measurement
- Quebec and Ontario compliance checks
Compliance checks assist field review; project teams remain responsible for applicable permits, standards and authority requirements.
Voice Commands
Hands-free commands are available in English, French and Spanish for common capture and status actions. An internet connection is required for voice commands. Voice notes can be recorded offline and retained with the survey.
Offline Operation & Sync
Measurements, coordinates, POIs, notes and evidence remain available in the native Windows application without field connectivity.
Once online, connect and complete synchronization before removing local field records. Voice notes work offline; voice commands require internet.
RoadScope Integration
RoadScope is a separate SolTec ecosystem product in the MAP IT. stage. MeasurePRO survey data synchronizes to RoadScope when online so field capture can continue into route-intelligence review.
Visit RoadScopeExports
Use CSV for tabular review, JSON/GeoJSON for data and GIS workflows, KML for geographic visualization, and ZIP to package survey data and associated files.
Troubleshooting
No LiDAR data
Check power and cabling, confirm the selected sensor/interface and serial parameters, then verify that another application is not using the COM port.
No GNSS fix
Check antenna visibility and NMEA output, verify baud rate and receiver selection, and use Windows location only as the fallback.
Camera unavailable
Confirm the camera connection and Windows permission, close other camera applications, then select the correct camera in settings.
Sync pending
Keep field data locally, restore a stable connection, authenticate, and retry RoadScope synchronization. Do not discard the local survey first.
