# MeasurePRO Hardware Kit
## Quick Start Guide

**Welcome to MeasurePRO!**  
Thank you for choosing SolTec Innovation's professional measurement system. This guide will walk you through setting up your equipment and completing your first survey.

## What's in the Box

Before you begin, verify that your kit contains:

## Step 1: Account Registration

Before using your hardware, you'll need to create your MeasurePRO account.

### 1.1 Register Your Account

1. Visit **https://[your-replit-url]/register** on your computer or tablet
2. Fill in your information:
   - Full Name
   - Email Address
   - Company Name
   - Position/Title
   - Cell Phone Number
   - Business Address
   - How you heard about us

3. Click **"Continue"**
4. Check your email for a 6-digit verification code
5. Enter the verification code on the next screen

### 1.2 Create Your Password

1. After email verification, create a secure password:
   - Minimum 8 characters
   - At least one uppercase letter
   - At least one number
   
2. Re-enter your password to confirm
3. Click **"Create Account"**

### 1.3 Wait for Admin Approval

Your account needs to be approved by our team before you can start using the system.

- **Approval time:** Usually within 1-2 business hours during business days
- **Email notification:** You'll receive an email when your account is approved
- **Status check:** You can log in at any time to see your approval status

## Step 2: Hardware Setup

Once your account is approved, you're ready to set up your hardware.

### 2.1 Laser Distance Meter Installation

1. **Choose mounting location:**
   - Front bumper center (recommended for clearance monitoring)
   - Vehicle roof (for overhead measurements)
   - Handheld use with tripod mount

2. **Secure the mounting bracket:**
   - Use provided bolts or magnetic base
   - Ensure stable, vibration-free mounting
   - Point laser forward in direction of travel

3. **Connect power cable:**
   - Connect to 12V vehicle power or battery pack
   - Verify power LED illuminates

4. **Connect USB-to-Serial cable:**
   - Connect serial end to LDM data port
   - Connect USB end to your tablet/laptop
   - Note the cable color/label for identification

### 2.2 GPS Receiver Installation

1. **Choose mounting location:**
   - Vehicle roof (best satellite visibility)
   - Dashboard near windshield
   - Handheld mounting pole

2. **Mount the GPS receiver:**
   - Magnetic mount for metal surfaces
   - Adhesive mount for non-metal surfaces
   - Ensure clear view of sky (no obstructions)

3. **Connect power cable:**
   - Connect to 12V vehicle power or battery pack
   - Verify power LED illuminates
   - Wait 1-2 minutes for satellite lock

4. **Connect USB-to-Serial cable:**
   - Connect serial end to GPS data port
   - Connect USB end to your tablet/laptop
   - Use different USB port than laser

### 2.3 Verify Hardware Connections

**Checklist:**
- ✓ Laser power LED: ON
- ✓ GPS power LED: ON
- ✓ Both USB cables connected to computer
- ✓ Cables secured and won't disconnect during movement

## Step 3: Software Installation

### 3.1 For Desktop/Tablet Users (MeasurePRO Web App)

1. **Open your web browser** (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox recommended)
2. **Navigate to:** `https://[your-replit-url]`
3. **Login** with your approved account credentials
4. **Bookmark** this page for quick access

**Optional - Install as App:**
1. Click the **browser menu** (⋮)
2. Select **"Install MeasurePRO"** or **"Add to Home Screen"**
3. The app will open in its own window (no browser tabs)

### 3.2 For Mobile Users (RoadScope App)

RoadScope is our lightweight mobile companion app for quick field measurements.

**Android:**
1. Open **Google Play Store**
2. Search for **"RoadScope SolTec"**
3. Tap **"Install"**
4. Open app and login with your MeasurePRO credentials

**iOS:**
1. Open **App Store**
2. Search for **"RoadScope SolTec"**
3. Tap **"Get"**
4. Open app and login with your MeasurePRO credentials

## Step 4: First Time Setup - Permissions

On first launch, MeasurePRO needs access to hardware and device features.

### 4.1 Grant Serial Port Access (Desktop/Tablet)

When you first connect your hardware, you'll see permission prompts.

**For Laser Distance Meter:**
1. Click **"Connect Laser"** button
2. Browser will show available serial ports
3. Select the port for your laser (check cable label)
4. Click **"Connect"**

**For GPS Receiver:**
1. Click **"Connect GPS"** button
2. Browser will show available serial ports
3. Select the port for your GPS (different from laser)
4. Click **"Connect"**

### 4.2 Grant Device Permissions (Mobile)

**For RoadScope mobile app:**

1. **Location/GPS:** Tap **"Allow"** when prompted
   - Required for position tracking and mapping
   
2. **Camera:** Tap **"Allow"** when prompted
   - Required for photo documentation
   
3. **Notifications:** Tap **"Allow"** (optional)
   - Helpful for alert notifications

## Step 5: Verify Hardware Connection

Once connected, verify your devices are working properly.

### 5.1 Check Laser Connection

1. Look at the **Measurement Display** panel
2. Point laser at a target (wall, object, etc.)
3. You should see:
   - ✓ **Distance reading** updating in real-time
   - ✓ **Green status indicator**
   - ✓ Reading changes when you move

**Troubleshooting:**
- ❌ **"No Data"** - Check cable connections, try reconnecting serial port
- ❌ **"--" dashes** - Laser may need power cycle, check power cable
- ❌ **Frozen reading** - Click "Disconnect" then "Connect" again

### 5.2 Check GPS Connection

1. Look at the **GPS Data** panel (click GPS tab if hidden)
2. Wait 1-2 minutes for satellite lock
3. You should see:
   - ✓ **Latitude/Longitude** coordinates
   - ✓ **Satellite count** (4 or more is good)
   - ✓ **Fix Quality:** "3D Fix" or better
   - ✓ Your **position marker** on the map

**Troubleshooting:**
- ❌ **"No Fix"** - Move GPS to location with clear sky view
- ❌ **Low satellite count** - Wait longer, ensure GPS antenna is upright
- ❌ **"No Data"** - Check cable connections, verify power LED is on

## Step 6: Your First Survey

Now that everything is connected, let's create your first survey!

### 6.1 Create a New Survey

1. Click the **"Survey Manager"** tab (left side)
2. Click **"+ New Survey"** button
3. Fill in survey details:
   - **Survey Name:** "My First Survey" (example)
   - **Location:** Address or description
   - **Project:** Optional project name
   - **Notes:** Any relevant details

4. Click **"Create Survey"**
5. The survey is now **active** - you'll see it highlighted in green

### 6.2 Take Your First Measurements

With an active survey, all measurements are automatically logged.

**Basic Measurement:**
1. Point the laser at your target
2. The distance appears in the **Measurement Display**
3. Click **"Log Measurement"** or press **[Space bar]**
4. Measurement is saved with GPS coordinates and timestamp

**Add a Photo:**
1. Click **"Camera"** tab
2. Click **"Capture Photo"**
3. Take a photo of your target
4. Photo is saved with the measurement data

**Add a Note:**
1. Click the **"Add Note"** button (pencil icon)
2. Type your observation or description
3. Click **"Save"**
4. Note is attached to the measurement

### 6.3 View Your Data

**Measurement Log:**
- Click **"Measurement Log"** tab
- See all your logged measurements
- Each entry shows: distance, GPS, time, notes, photos

**Map View:**
- Click **"Map"** tab
- See your measurement locations on the map
- Purple line shows your vehicle path (trace)

## Step 7: Common Tasks

### 7.1 Set Ground Reference

When measuring clearances, set a ground reference height:

1. Point laser straight down at the ground
2. Click **"Set Ground Reference"** button
3. All future measurements are adjusted (Height = Laser Reading - Ground Reference)

**Use Case:** When your laser is mounted 10 feet high, and you measure a 12-foot overhead wire, the display shows "2 ft clearance" (12 - 10 = 2).

### 7.2 Export Survey Data

1. Open the active survey in **Survey Manager**
2. Click the **survey name** to open details
3. Click **"Export"** button
4. Choose format:
   - **CSV** - Excel-compatible spreadsheet
   - **JSON** - Raw data file
   - **GeoJSON** - For GIS software
   - **KML** - For Google Earth

5. File downloads to your device

### 7.3 Switch Between Units

Change between metric and imperial units:

1. Click **"Settings"** (gear icon)
2. Go to **"Display Settings"**
3. Select **"Units":**
   - Imperial (feet/inches)
   - Metric (meters)
4. All measurements update instantly

## Troubleshooting Guide

### Issue: "Cannot connect to serial port"

**Solutions:**
1. ✓ Refresh the page and try again
2. ✓ Unplug USB cables, wait 5 seconds, reconnect
3. ✓ Try different USB ports on your computer
4. ✓ Check cable connections at device end
5. ✓ Restart your computer
6. ✓ Use Chrome or Edge browser (best compatibility)

### Issue: Laser shows "No Data" or dashes

**Solutions:**
1. ✓ Verify power LED is ON on laser unit
2. ✓ Check power cable connection
3. ✓ Disconnect and reconnect serial port in app
4. ✓ Power cycle the laser (unplug power, wait 10 seconds, reconnect)

### Issue: GPS shows "No Fix"

**Solutions:**
1. ✓ Wait 2-5 minutes for initial satellite lock (cold start)
2. ✓ Move GPS to location with clear sky view
3. ✓ Avoid parking garages, tunnels, dense tree cover
4. ✓ Ensure GPS antenna is upright (parallel to ground)
5. ✓ Check that GPS power LED is on

### Issue: Measurements seem incorrect

**Solutions:**
1. ✓ Verify laser is pointed at intended target
2. ✓ Check if ground reference is set correctly
3. ✓ Ensure laser lens is clean (use soft cloth)
4. ✓ Verify unit setting (metric vs imperial)
5. ✓ Check for reflective or transparent targets (may cause errors)

### Issue: App won't load or is slow

**Solutions:**
1. ✓ Check internet connection
2. ✓ Clear browser cache (Settings → Privacy → Clear Data)
3. ✓ Try different browser (Chrome recommended)
4. ✓ Close other browser tabs
5. ✓ Restart browser

### Issue: Photos not capturing

**Solutions:**
1. ✓ Grant camera permission when prompted
2. ✓ Check browser settings → Site Permissions → Camera
3. ✓ Ensure camera is not being used by another app
4. ✓ Try refreshing the page

## Safety Guidelines

### Laser Safety
- ⚠️ **Never look directly into laser beam**
- ⚠️ **Do not point at eyes or reflective surfaces**
- ⚠️ Class 2 laser - safe for momentary viewing
- Keep away from children

### Vehicle Operation
- ⚠️ **Never operate measurement system while driving**
- Always have a dedicated operator
- Ensure cables don't interfere with vehicle controls
- Secure all equipment before moving vehicle

### Electrical Safety
- Use only provided power cables and adapters
- Don't expose equipment to rain without weatherproofing
- Disconnect power when not in use for extended periods
